Where to Recycle Polystyrene

Find Out Where to Recycle Polystyrene in Your Town

Consumers now becoming aware of the benefits of recycling to keep the environment clean, cost of products lower, and an increase in job creation often want to know where to recycle polystyrene.

The first stop when wanting more information about where to recycle polystyrene should be the Polystyrene Packaging Council of South Africa (PSPC). Simply enter your email address at the Drop-off Sites category to receive a list of recycle points in your immediate environment. The PSPC endeavours to make it as easy as possible to locate points and recycle the material with as little as possible effort from the consumer.

KwaZulu-Natal – Durban Drop-off Sites

In addition, the PSPC also lists municipal drop-off sites where you can recycle polystyrene in your specific province or town. For KwaZulu-Natal – Durban for instance, an email is given as kennydl@dmws.durban.gov.za. It is, however, recommended that you enter your email address or contact the PSPC directly as emails and contact information change over time. There are recycle points in Amanzimtoti at Nayati and Seadoone Road Sites, in Bellair at the corner of Edwin Sales and Bellair, while you can also recycle at the corner of Tara and Grey’s Inn Roads in the Bluff, Durban.

Other areas in Durban are that of Chatsworth in Sagittarius Road and Kloof at the Civic Offices while people living in Westville can recycle at the Civic Centre there and in Redhill at Malacca Road. For people who want to recycle in Phoenix, there is a drop-off point in Canehaven Drive while the point for recycling in Durban North is in Riverside Road. The Hillcrest Civic Centre also forms a drop-off point, while Pipdate Street has one in Newlands West. There are also drop–off points in Merewent in Travancore Drive and at the Macro Shopping Centre in Springfield.

Make Use of the PSPC

As mentioned, one can easily locate places where to recycle polystyrene in your immediate environment by simply providing your email address at the drop-off sites category at the PSPC website. The list of places to recycle is too exhaustive to provide online and with locations often changing it is best to get the latest information as to avoid disappointment.

How to Recycle For a Cleaner Environment

Help reduce the carbon footprint on the environment by recycling as many as possible household products. Purchase in bulk if you can as such will help to reduce micro packaging. Where possible, purchase a container and thereafter refillables. Purchase local to help with job creation and to reduce packaging associated with imports. Only purchase what you need rather than buying and eventually throwing products away because you didn’t use them in time. Repair rather than replace where possible. Print only when needed as this helps to minimize not only usage of wood, but also reduces waste.

What Can Be Recycled?

All the polystyrene products can be recycled. In addition cardboard, paper, cans, bottles, and plastic bottles can be recycled. Find out from the PSPC where to recycle polystyrene and how to go about. The consultants will gladly assist because you show that you are a responsible consumer that cares about the environment.
