The PSPC, otherwise known as the Polystyrene Packaging Council, was officially formed in February 2007. It was created in order to implement an industry standard for the manufacturing, use and disposal and even recycling of polystyrene.

Many people are under the misconception that polystyrene is dangerous when used to package food products and that it is detrimental to the environment.

PSPC is dedicated to informing the general public that polystyrene has no effect on the food that it packages and while it is not biodegradable, it can be recycled successfully. Polystyrene is great for packaging food. It doesn’t encourage bacterial growth is extremely clean. What’s more is that it contains liquids and moisture extremely well without it seeping or leaking through the packaging.

Polystyrene is used also for packaging medication and in the construction industry for piping, roofing, shower units, bath units, sidings and more. It can also be found to play quite a big role in the manufacturing of housings for electronic devices and appliances.
