Polystyrene Recycling – Start Recycling Today
While polystyrene is a great packaging plastic and extremely versatile, it is also not biodegradable which means that it can cause some pollution concerns. Of course polystyrene can be recycled for reuse, which is being constantly encouraged by the Polystyrene Packaging Council. This particular council is dedicated to ensuring that consumers are made aware of and educated properly in terms of polystyrene recycling.
A major aim of the Polystyrene Packaging Council is to expand on the existing collection depots made available for polystyrene. They are also dedicated to educating the public on the suitable ways in which to dispose of and recycle polystyrene.
They are also working on establishing national standards and guidelines for both the manufacturing and recycling of polystyrene in South Africa. Polystyrene recycling is an absolute must. Without it our streets and shore lines would be littered with potentially dangerous amounts of pollution as polystyrene is used in so many of our products.
Polystyrene is often also referred to as Styrofoam and is used in the manufacturing of items such as egg boxes, takeaway containers, meat packaging, medicine packaging and even other office and household items such as kid’s toys, staplers, rulers and so much more.
This means that many of these items can be recycled when they become old and worn, other than just throwing them away or dumping them. Of course it is something that each individual needs to be made aware of and taught in order for each of us to make it our responsibility.
